How did Coruscant become the capital of the Republic? 200,000 years before the Battle of Yavin, two species battled on the world of Notron, the Taung, who would become Mandalorians, and the Zhell, believed to be the first humans. The Zhell emerged victorious, driving the Taung from their world and renaming it Coruscant.

A hundred millennia passed, and the Columi species branded Coruscant as primitive. By 90,000 BBY the Gree arrived, sharing their knowledge of basic infrastructure, including atmospheric scrubbers, recycling plants, and hydroponic farms, which became the foundation of mass urbanization. A dark shadow fell across the planet sixty thousand years later when the Rakata incorporated Coruscant into their Infinite Empire, enslaving the humans. Over the centuries, humans secretly sent sleeper ships to establish colonies across the galaxy. But the Infinite Empire collapsed and the humans reclaimed their world. Reuniting the scattered human colonies, the Galactic Constitution was signed, birthing the Galactic Republic and establishing the human homeworld as the capital of the new government.
