Leaf Mold Worm Bedding slows worm migration #leafmold #leafmould #vermicomposting

In previous feedings, I used quite a bit of my 2021 leaf mold made from big leaf maple leaves as bedding material in my Eat My Shorts worm bin. Although the vermicompost in the "finished" end of my bin looks like it is ready to harvest, the presence of worms throughout this area tells me there are still a lot of microbes and material the worms can process. Even though I consistently feed in one end (and even feed the worms favourite food – pumpkin!), by working leaf mold into the entire bin, I slowed the migration of worms out of the finished vermicompost and will have to wait a while longer.
