MSR has brought out the big guns for off-road and dual-sport riders with the new Voyager jacket. We tested the MSR outerwear over the course of a weekend of dual-sporting around Bend, Oregon, and, despite our efforts to pick it apart, have nothing negative to report. The ride started out with a cool morning, followed by temperatures that climbed into the upper 80s over the next two days. The venting on the Voyager is excellent, with large intake vents near the armpits, a two-way main zipper and an adjustable exhaust across the shoulder blades. We were able to detect a little wind penetrating the zippers at speed, but they did a good job of keeping the dust at bay. Great styling is accented by hi-viz colors and reflective materials. This is always a huge bonus anytime you're on the street. Sizing was spot on. It is designed to fit over existing layers or protective gear, so it's roomy inside. The sleeve and torso lengths were very good for our riders. One of the best features about this Voyager for DS riders is the ability to add D3O armor in the shoulders and elbows. We did not test the inserts, but it's a great way to get extra coverage without having to use constricting body armor that is cinched down against your skin. Storage is excellent on the Voyager. We made use of all the pockets in some way or another and had room to spare at all times.
