East Lancashire Railway Autumn Steam Gala 2023

Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways In this video we review our final Autumn Steam Gala of 2023 at The East Lancashire Railway on the Saturday & Sunday of the event which this year has a Southern Railway & LMS theme with the GWR & LNER missing within the line up denying it to be The Big 4 Railway Companies theme. The visiting locos for the gala of the 2023 event were The Great Central Railway's 8F 48305 & Chris Beet's Jubilee 45690 Leander fresh from her final mainline run back in September 2023 before overhaul next year in 2024. The gala marked the 1st gala appearance of the largest loco owned by the east lancs after a 9 month overhaul BR Built Bulleid Pacific West Country 34092 City of Wells now happily back in service. The gala also marked the final steam appearances of 34092's brother Southern Locomotive Ltd's BR built battle of britain bulleid pacific 34072 257 Squadron before he returns home to The Spa Valley Railway ready for the start of The Polar Express season at the end of November. The 4 locos were supported by The Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway's Trust's tank 51456, 0-4-0 Pug tank 11243 & West Coast Railways's Jinty 0-6-0 tank 47298. Saturday we spent much of the day at Burrs despite the weather being 50/50 with rain & sunshine but we pulled through & got the steam moves we wanted. Then the following day we focused on the far northern section of the line between Irwell Vale & Townsend Fold Signal Box getting 9 out of the 10 north bound runs in beautiful sunshine. It was a great gala weekend being put on by The Lancs. We wonder what 2024 will bring. Only time will tell.
