Acne is one of the most common inflammatory conditions affecting the individual and the most  common sequele  of acne is scars.  Acne  scars  occur a  result of  the  damage  to the  skin caused  by  the  inflammation of acne.  Acne scars tend to affect the individual deeply, whereby he loses his self-esteem in terms of his appearance  in public  life. There are many  type of  acne scars morphologically they are  the flat  pigmented  macular  scars, the deep  ice  pick  scars, the  rolling scars, the boxcars, as  well as these  hypertrophic scars. The treatment of the acne scars depends on the types of scars. The most common procedures we perform are the chemical peels. Chemical peels are more useful for the macular pigmented acne scars. The  most  common  compounds  we use  for treating  acne scars  are the glycolic  acid, salicylic acid,  tricholoroacetic  acid,  retinol as well as combination peels.  Multiple sessions would be required to get the required results. Next we recommend microdermabrasion, which involves the use of aluminium hydroxide crystals along with the vacuum  mechanism. Aluminium  hydroxide  crystals brings  about superficial  ablation of the  skin, thereby providing  for  the rejuvenated  look , as well as  stimulates the production of collagen all these play a  vital role in improving the appearance of the acne scars. Thirdly micro needling treatments or popularly known as dermaroller treatments. The basic   principle of treatments is mechanical trauma when we induce mechanical trauma with the help of a dermaroller it stimulates collagen remodelling, thereby  it  helps to improve the appearance of the  scars. Next is micro needling radiofrequency. It is a slight modification and improvements over the microneedle dermaroller treatments, apart  from the mechanical trauma,  it  also  has a thermal  component. So a coblation of the mechanical trauma and a thermal component, acts as a potent stimulator for collagen  synthesis. This  gives  much  better  results for the dermaroller treatment  alone, the  results are almost  comparable  as that  lasers and the advantage of this procedure is there is  no  downtime,  and patient  can resume their  work the  same  day  or the  next day as well. Lasers have  been in the  forefront for the treatment  of acne scars, particularly carbon dioxide  lasers and the erbium Yag  lasers. Lasers provide  excellent  results  but one  must remember  that there is a downtime  of about   5 to 6  days  associated  with lasers, couple of  other  procedures we  perform for acne scars  are submission, punch
