Majorana in Chains by Ilya Drozdov

Appearing today in Science magazine, our group reports the observation of Majorana fermions in chains of Fe atoms on the surface of Pb. This short video shows schematically how evaporation and annealing of Fe on a Pb (110) surface can be used to make chains made up of Fe atom (the actual chains in the experiment are triple chains). High-resolution scanning tunneling microscope is used not only to probe the structure and magnetic texture of such chains but also to probe the probability density of detecting the Majorana fermion at their ends.
