The Buffet & Yamaha options are still regarded by most Teachers and Players as the best options for new beginners. This is because of the excellent manufacturing quality, the research & design work that ensures the Clarinet plays easily and in-tune, and the strong resale value.

For many years these two brands have been at the top of the tree for new clarinet beginners. Whilst there are some cheaper alternatives on the market the best long-term investment is definitely either Buffet or Yamaha. Either of these would make the early days/weeks/months of learning more enjoyable due to their ease of play and reliability. In the longer term the higher manufacturing quality (compared to most cheaper models) means the instrument will keep working for many years and be worth something when you come to upgrade.
