Flood susceptibility mapping is a technique used to identify areas that are at high risk of flooding. This type of map is created by combining information about a variety of factors that contribute to flooding, including topography, soil type, land use, and historical flood data. The result is a map that shows which areas are most likely to experience flooding under different scenarios, such as heavy rainfall or a major storm surge.

The process of creating a flood susceptibility map typically begins with the collection of data on various physical and environmental factors that can affect flooding. This data is then used to create a digital elevation model (DEM) of the area, which shows the topography and slope of the land. Next, data on soil type, land use, and other factors is overlaid onto the DEM to create a detailed map of the area.

Once the data has been collected and processed, it is analyzed using various modeling techniques to determine the risk of flooding in different areas. The most common method is GIS based method which uses raster or vector data to classify the areas into different flood vulnerability classes. For example, the area with highest elevation would be least susceptible and the area with low elevation would be highly susceptible to flooding.

The final product is a map that shows the relative risk of flooding in different areas, typically color-coded to indicate the level of risk. This map can be used by local governments, emergency management agencies, and other organizations to plan for and respond to floods, as well as by insurance companies and real estate developers to assess the risk associated with a particular property or development.

Overall the Flood susceptibility mapping is an important tool for understanding and managing the risks associated with flooding, providing information to help people make informed decisions about where to live, work, and develop.
