In this video I give
In this video I give some ideas about how to get this experiment to work. It is very tricky. The magnetic field about a wire diminishes inversely with distance and unless you are very close to the wire the field is almost indistinguishable from background geomagnetism. I present some sample results and ways of presenting and analysing data. It includes a three minute video where students can collect their own data from a real experiment and have a go at error analysis and dealing with uncertainties. This video will prove useful for students and teachers who are trying to do the Mandatory Practical in Unit 3 of the Queensland Physics Syllabus (2019).
This video is part of a series by me, Dr Richard Walding, aimed at helping students and teachers with their high school physics experimental work. There are several more in my playlists.
