Synopsis of lesson 250:
Principle of Cit-Cinmātra-Puruṣatattva
Imposition on Ātman; insentient is considered sentient.
Vyasa’s commentary: There is a ricochet or re-reflection of Puruṣa on Buddhi ; hence it is Pratibimba and not Saksitvaṁ in Puruṣatattvam. Buddhi belies that it is Ātmarupaṁ. Atman appears to be similar to Buddhi which is the strange condition of Māyā. Without Pāramārthikata, there seems to be Abhedaunṣa; but with Pāramārthika, it is clear that there is Bhedaunṣa.
Puruṣatattva is ever-knowing of the Buddhitattva. Hence, appears seemingly following Budhhitattva, but in fact it is different from it. Prapanca exists because of this in-distinction. Vikeka needs to be developed to understand the difference.
Prapanca cannot be done away with tricks of neo-spiritualism.
Story of Śvetaketu and his severe penance is described in Briguvidyā. Many many years of Tapas is suggested by his Guru. Tapas was to explore and discover himself. Slowly, layer by layer, Truth is revealed to him.
He first understands that Self or Brahman is Prāṇa, then later, Brahman is Mind or Manas; then, Brahman is Vijñānam, Annam is Brahman and finally in the seventh Tapas, the revelation came.
The seeker must have patience. There is no instant solution or knowledge to understand ‘Tattvamasi’ or ‘Ahaṁbrahmāsmi’.
Vivekakhyāti is the only way to get distinction between Puruṣa and Buddhi.
'Swami-sevaka bhava'; 'Swa-swami sambandham'.
Dṛṣṭā and Dṛṣyaṁ. Why is there such a connection between these two? For Tadartam- for the sole purpose of the Dṛṣṭā, which is to journey towards Bhogārthaṁ or Apavargārthaṁ.
But then, when attachment to Prakṛti is to be vanquished, why has it been created? For the Teleological explanation, it is like the existence of the soul of a beloved. In the absence of this soul, there would have been no existence. The Drṣyaṁ has its soul embedded in the Puruṣatattva.
