Enjoy the beauty of Pedernales Falls State Park in Johnson City, Texas. The typical placid appearance of the river is deceiving.  It can easily flash-flood, turning into a raging torrent.  I personally experienced such a flash flood two years ago.  See:   Flash Flood at Pedernales Falls State....

The park features 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails,10 miles of equestrian trails and another 14 miles of trails open only to hiking and backpacking. I rode my bike to the primitive camping area and set-up a hammock.  Only containerized cooking stoves are allowed in this area, so I cooked with a Sterno Can.  It was a short bike ride to Jones Spring and a rock house built in the early 1870s.  You will definitely want to see the rock house.   Also, don't miss visiting the bird blinds and butterfly gardens.

If you want to learn about the history of this region, see the book:  FARMERS, RANCHERS, THE LAND AND THE FALLS: A History of the Pedernales Falls Area, 1850, by John J. Leffler, 2010, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

For those of you who don't follow my YouTube Channel, my "camping partner" is a bear puppet.  He's a great pillow!  Although he doesn't have a "speaking part" in this video, he briefly appears in several scenes.  A special prize goes to the first person who correctly identifies the number of scenes where bear appears.
