What are the worst towns to live in England? England has beautiful and great towns to live in. Anyone living in England or contemplating doing so has a lot of options to choose from. Nevertheless, it’s not all English towns that you can be proud of. If you’re in one of the worst places to live in England, you won’t believe you are living in the UK. In this video, I’ll show you the 12 worst towns to live in England. However, these worst towns in England are not the worst towns in the UK.
Please, note also that this list of the 12 worst towns to live in England is just my personal opinion and a product of careful research and firsthand experience about living in England.
12. Oldham
We begin with Oldham, a borough in Greater Manchester in the North West. The town is historically notable for its culture of theater. It’s one of the worst towns to live in England. It’s a place no one would enjoy living in. How would anyone enjoy living in a town lacking in leisure and cultural amenities? It’s a town without a pleasure beach or anything to boost its image. No wonder Oldham has been among the most deprived towns in Britain several times. One frustrated resident of the town once complained that it’s “as though the government has been performing nuclear testing” in Oldham.
11. Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough, a large town in North Yorkshire, is also one of the worst towns to live in England. It ranks poorly for security, anti-social behavior, crime, unemployment, and health. This explains why it’s often in the media as one of the worst places to live in England. A TV show presenter once described Middlesbrough as having “critical health levels, double the English average of drug abuse, 8 percent more smokers than the English average,” adding that the town binges. To convince the viewers, her co-presenter adds: “Ninety percent of the residents never exercise and few eat healthily,” adding that “robbery, burglary, sexual assault, violent crimes and car theft are all more than twice the UK average.”
10. Halifax
Now, let’s turn our attention to Halifax, a town in Calderdale in West Yorkshire, a Metropolitan Borough. Halifax is the administrative, commercial, and cultural center of its borough. This minster town is the headquarters of Calderdale Council. While it became the old West Riding of Yorkshire’s economic hub in the 15th century, it is today one of the worst towns to live in England. All that past glory has gone into oblivion, except the few mention of the Building Society bearing its name. Many of those born or living in Halifax would leave the town at the next slightest opportunity.
