160.7 Mile Solo Colorado Trail Loop

In July 2021, I set off to hike the Collegiate Loop, a 160.7 mile loop through the Colorado mountains using parts of the Colorado Trail and Continental Divide Trail. It took me 11 days.

I made this video using a Sony a7iii with Samyang 24mm f2.8 lens using a custom HLG3 based color profile. Landscape shots were done at 4k24p, selfie shots were done at 1080/120p (better for stabilization). I used a GoPro Hero 6 shooting in Protune/Flat usually attached to a trekking pole. I stabilized all the GoPro shots in ReelSteadyGo.

I edited and color graded everything in DaVinci Resolve 17. The opening titles were made within Resolves Fusion visual effects tool, but the animations of the mountain range were just too much for Fusion (and my tiny 6gb of vram) to handle. Instead, I taught myself Blender 2.9, and made the entire mountain range using the incredible tools in there. That literally took 2 months of work, probably more time was spent on the map than I spent on the actual video, but I loved it.
