Today's breathing journey is all about reigniting your crown chakra. The crown or the seventh chakra is located at the top of the head. Just as the Root or First Chakra connects us to the Mother Earth, the Crown Chakra is our connection to the Universe. In fact, the Seventh Chakra disperses the Universal energy or life force into the six other chakras located below it. In Sanskrit, the Crown Chakra is termed as the Sahasrara (the ‘thousand fold’ Chakra), since it is pictured as a lotus having thousand white petals.

An unbalanced or blocked Crown Chakra can render it inactive. It can cause feelings of being rigid, selfish and spiritually unaware potentially leading to general depression, lack of joy and loss of meaning in life. A blocked Crown Chakra can also lead to selfish thoughts, an inability to see the bigger picture in life and a general lack of values and ethics.

Towards of latter part of today's breathing journey, we'll be exploring box breathing. Box breathing has been repeatedly used by the military due to its calming and focus enhancing effects. The technique consists of breathing in for four, pausing the breath for four, breathing our for four and pausing the breath for four after the exhalation. Box breathing has many benefits including an activation of the parasympathetic nervous system, utilisation of nasal nitric oxide, increased oxygenation of tissues and organs due to the Bohr effect and a heightened focus due to increased blood flow to the brain.

NOTE: If you are pregnant or have high blood pressure please do not perform breath holds. Instead, continue to breathe low, slow and gently.

On this channel you'll find guided breathing journeys to give you the tools to harnessing your bodies and minds for more energy, less stress, improved sports performance, better sleep, sharper focus and so much more.

Many incredible humans such as Patrick McKeown, Wim Hof, Joe Rogan and Lewis Howes have developed a practise to tap into the power of their breath to optimise their own health and performance.
