Genetic Engineering Summary

Fragments of source DNA are inserted into vectors typically plasmids because the host cells are usually bacteria.  This is accomplished via restriction enzymes to generate sticky ends.

A preliminary screen of the clone library eliminates
-Clones without vectors
-Clones with vectors that do not contain DNA

Antibiotic resistance commonly to ampicillin can be used as a selecting agent, but b-galactosidase can also be used.  The proteins can be used in research, heat attack therapies,  human growth hormones.
