What Rhasidat Adeleke JUST DID Changes Everything In The Women’s 400 Meters
The 2024 Diamond League Meeting in Monaco on July 12th lived up to the hype with some surprising performances on the track. And even though the short sprints got us excited, I must say, one of the most exciting races of the day was the women’s 400 meters. Of course, with the likes of Irish sensation Rhasidat Adeleke, Lieke Klaver from the Netherlands, and Kendall Ellis of the USA among other formidable sprinters, you definitely expected nothing short of an epic showdown. And sure enough, that’s exactly what we saw.
In the lead-up to this race, the 21-year-old Rhasidat Adeleke from Dublin was the favorite to win. She stands as the former NCAA champion and new European Championship silver medalist… And just recently at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships, Adeleke broke the Irish record with an impressive personal best of 49.07 seconds, the second-fastest time by a European this century. But she was in for tough competition from the likes of Lieke Klaver from the Netherlands, and of course Kendall Ellis, the newly crowned US Olympic Trials Champion, among several other formidable sprinters on the start list.
