Tom Colman, Shure UK joins HowToAV.tv to explain Boundary Layer Microphones, used for conferencing and boardroom applications.
Designed for spoken word applications in conference and audio visual systems, designed to be placed flat on a desk or table in front of the speaker.
Boundary layer microphones are available in a range of styles, including flat, 'mouse', through-desk and riser and vary in polar patterns, to meet the audio needs of the acoustic environment, placement, number of people in the room, ambient noise, etc.
Cardioid boundary microphones should usually be used one per person.
Omnidirectional would normally be placed in the centre of a table to pick up the voices of a number of people around the perimeter.
