We later saw what appeared, from a distance, to be a similar condition near the border crossing between Israel and Egypt, and therefor concluded that this is likely not peculiar to the crossing site.  Nevertheless, it's still an interesting phenomenon with no apparent explanation. Other evidence still led Ron Wyatt to conclude that the south side of Nuweiba was the point of crossing however - including the bathometric reports of underwater slopes in this area (which offers a reasonable sloped terrain from the Egyptiant to Saudi side, in this location, the matching pillars that he discovered on either side (on the Saudi side, he claimed the inscriptions were not totally eroded away and contained Hebrew (I assume) that translated to words such as: Pharaoh, Moses, Egypt, Water, Death, etc.), and the remains of chariots, humans and horses that he found scattered from this location east.
