Murukku / Chakli is a most loved snack which is made in India during the festival season. Kids and adults both love this spiralled shaped snack / Murukku / chakli . This crunchy and delicious chakli can be made instantly for your tea time snack or for a quick bite when bored binging movies.  Murukku or Chakli is a savory, crunchy snack made with rice flour and urad dal. Murukulu , chakralu and jantikalu are some of the other names to these. The amazing round shaped, Murukku goes so well for an evening snack, that you might adopt them as a substitute for various branded biscuits and chips. Murukku’s can be bought from snack shops in South India. However, you can make wonderful Murukkus at home . I used rice and urad dal to make a dough for the Murukku . Here we bring you an easy Murukku Recipe   that’s not only quick but, can be easily made at home. The Murukku recipe we listed below is most basic of Indian recipes also one of the tastiest! Trying this Murukku recipe at home is an easy way to get a delicious snack.

Urad dal - 1/4 cup
rice flour - 1 cup
cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
sesame seeds - 1 tbsp
salt to taste
ghee - 1 tbsp
oil for frying

The recipe of Murukku in split into four simple steps to follow:
Step 1 -  Make Urad dal dough
Dry roast the urad dal till they light brown. Keep steering the dal till it becomes aromatic or lightly golden. Make sure you don’t brown them. After roasting the urad dal Pressure cook them with about 3/4 cup of water and blend the cooked dal to a paste.  Meanwhile, spread oil on the murukku disc and on the part of the murukku maker where the dough will be placed.
Step 2 - Make Murukku dough knead the murukku dough
Add the rice flour, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, salt and ghee and kneed them into stiff dough by adding water little at time. Once the murukku dough is ready, taste the dough and add more salt if required. Then kneed to make the murukku dough smooth and soft also keep the dough slightly moist. Makes sure that the dough isn’t too moist because then your murukku will absorb more oil. One must keep in mind to make the murukku as soon as possible after kneading the dough. So make sure you keep everything ready before you shape and fry them.
Step 3 - Shape the Murukku
To make the murukkus, grease your fingers and take a little dough. and fill the murukku mould with the prepared  dough and cover the rest of the dough with a kitchen towel. Before you begin the process of shaping the murukku, keep oil in a vessel to get heated. Heat the oil in a low-medium flame, so that it doesn’t become too hot. Fill the murukku mould with the prepared  dough and press them to form sprials. If the murukku breaks, while forming them that means that the dough doesn’t have enough moisture and you are not getting proper shape then it means that your murukku is too moist.
Step 4 – Fry the Murukku
Test the hotness of the oil by adding a small piece of dough in the oil, and it should come up gradually. If the dough comes up too fast, then the oil is too hot, so you must reduce the flame. Take the murukku in a spatula and gently place the spatula in the oil. Deep fry the prepared murukku till crisp in oil on medium high heat.  Fry the Murukku  until they turn light golden, then flip them carefully. Fry the murukku till the oil stops sizzling or till they become crisp and golden. Drain the murukku and let it cool before serving them. Your delicious homemade murukku is ready to eat. Store the murukku in a dry air-tight container.
