Dr. Gavin Chan MBBS, General Registration (MED0001175745) discusses the various uses of the Erbium laser, including its use in the removal of skin lumps and bumps and laser resurfacing.

Dr. Gavin Chan, a cosmetic doctor from Victorian Cosmetic Institute, discusses the treatments that are performed including the removal of layers of skin and laser skin resurfacing. One original purpose of laser skin resurfacing was to take skin off a person's face in order to remove wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage.

The benefits of the Erbium Laser treatment include the removal of lesions from someone's skin as well as the removal of lumps and bumps from his/her skin. The Erbium Laser has replaced a carbon dioxide laser. Some of the side effects that the carbon dioxide laser treatment caused included scarring of skin tissues and a white appearance of the skin.

The treatment that is featured in this video was performed by skin being shaved down. A man is shown having lesions of skin removed from his head with a Erbium Laser.

Dr. Gavin Chan closes the video by reminding viewers that the Erbium Laser is very useful for shaving down lumps and bumps in addition to covering the final passes of laser resurfacing.

In this video I'll be talking about the Erbium Laser. The Erbium Laser is a very useful laser which can be used for a multitude of things. One of the original uses of the Erbium Laser was for laser skin resurfacing; this would basically take a layer of skin off the face and with it remove wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage.

The Erbium Laser actually came out as a replacement for the Carbon Dioxide Laser back in the 1990's, the Carbon Dioxide Laser back then was used quite aggressively and often left people with a lot of scarring or sort of a whitish look to their skin. The Erbium Laser was designed to overcome these problems with the Carbon Dioxide Laser, but because the Erbium Laser doesn't impart much heat energy on the skin it actually never achieved the same sort of skin tightening the Carbon Dioxide Laser achieved.
So the Erbium Laser fell out of vogue and the Carbon Dioxide Laser came back into vogue, but it was used at less aggressive settings and with new technology it was able to overcome these initial side effects and complications which were present when it first came out.

Primarily for laser skin resurfacing nowdays we use the Carbon Dioxide Laser and often finish with a few passes of the Erbium as a final polish; but one of the main reasons we use the Erbium Laser for nowadays is removal of lumps and bumps from the skin. The Erbium Laser is a laser which literally shaves very fine layers of skin with each pass and by doing so we can actually shave down a mole or shave down a lesion on the skin, to be flush with the skin level.

In summary the Erbium Laser is a very useful laser for shaving down lumps and bumps and also for the final passes of laser resurfacing.
