BOSNIA: TUZLA: US NATO TROOPS ARRIVE IN MOSLEM HELD TERRITORY

U-S tanks have deployed in Muslim-held territory for the first time in Bosnia as part of the NATO implementation force.
The tanks crossed the Sava river which has now been bridged by a pontoon.
The troops will celebrate New Year's Eve in a snowy field far from loved ones.
American Abrams tanks, part of the NATO implementation force, rumbled into Moslem-held territory in Bosnia for the first time Sunday.
The U-S troops are replacing a Swedish contingent which has been based in the area.
After crossing the Sava river the American tanks took up positions around the Moslem-held town of Srebrenik, as part of a 20-thousand strong force that will deploy around the Tuzla area.
The soldiers will make their base here and provide help and assistance to the surrounding area as and when they are needed.
SOUNDBITE:
To set up an operation here south of the Posavina corridor so we can operate and run daily missions out and about. We can base out of here to conduct our daily missions whatever they may be: reconnaissance patrols, resupply operations, check point operations. This allows us stability and an area where we can provide those kinds of missions.
