Black Mambas are feared for their speed, unpredictability and super potent neurotoxic venom that can kill a person within a few hours if not treated immediately with proper medical care. But fortunately most other stories about Black Mambas are false: they never chase us, in fact they will always try to get out of our way and will only bite as a very last resort in order to defend themselves. Snakes are defensive - not aggressive. When walking through Africa they can pick up vibrations from our steps from over 100 meters away and are then usually quick to make an escape. This snake only becomes dangerous if we corner or confront it. If it can’t make an escape and we actively threaten it, for example when we try to catch or kill, the Black Mamba will bite readily and often times repeatedly! Therefore one should always leave snakes alone and if we do so, we will never run into a conflict with any snake. So if we come across a Black Mamba in the wild and we retreat slowly, the snake will do the same. If the individual must be removed, please contact a professional snake catcher.
