While Chartreuse's price is skyrocking and most of the time, unavailable, this is a great alternative at a much cheaper cost. A bottle of everclear will cost you arounf 20$ and you will be able to make roughly 1.5L of Chartreuse using this techinque. If you count the botanicals required for 1.5L of liqueur, this will cost you less then 30$ total. That said, you might have to invest a little more for the first batch but the left over of your ingredients will last you almost forever so you'll be able to use them for following batches, Also, the list of ingredients is almost identical than the one for my Green Chartreuse recipe coming up shortly (I won't make you wait for this one, I promise, the video is already shot LOL) If you have any questions on the ingredients, feel free to let me know in the comments and I'll do my best to answer. I hope you will appreciate this DIY project.

This is the formula to proof down higher proof spirit.
I'm not super good at explaining math but here how it goes :
My spirit alochol % is 0.95. If you's is different, use that value instead of 0.95

0.95/0.80 = 1.1875
Than to proof down 250ml of 0.95 I'll do
250 x 1.1875 = 296.87
250 - 296.87 = 46.87
So I need to add 46.87 ml to 250 ml of 95% alcohol to get a 80% alcohol


INGREDIENTS
For every 250 ml of 80% alcohol, you will need :
Angelica root - 0.7 gr
Caraway - 1.2 gr
Mace - 0.1 gr
Liquorice root - 1 gr
Cardamom - 0.3 gr
Coriander seeds - 1 gr
Thyme - 0.2 gr
Green anis seeds - 0.1 gr
Star anis - 0.2 gr
Whole Ambrette seed - 1 gr
Lemon peel - 0.5 gr
Saffron - 4 small strands
Camomile - 0.2 gr

Once cooked for 2 hours sous-vide at 75.5 celcius, filter through coffee filter
measure out the yield and double up the amount with uninfused 80% alcohol

Add the sugar, honey, essences, extract and tincture.
Stir until dissolved
Bottle up

This will keep at room temperature forever

IMPORTANT NOTE
Since we used maceration, after 48 hours, some sediments will form in the bottle. Don't worry, this is natural and not dangerous. You have to choices
1- shake it before use or
2- split the batch in 2. Let one settle completely while using the other one. When it's completely settled, decant it and re bottle it. Now use this one and do the same with what you have left in the bottle you were using.
