German musician Markus aka Markus Mörl performing his former labelmate Rio Reiser's 1986 hit "König von Deutschland (King of Germany)" at the Stadtfest / 18. Offenbacher Woche, Offenbach am Main, Germany on May 31, 2013. "König von Deutschland" was written by Rio Reiser in 1975 whilst being a member of Ton Steine Scherben. The original song lyrics are updated with tongue in cheek 2013 references to US President Barack Obama and Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel.
"König von Deutschland" was a single released from his first solo album "Rio I" (produced by Udo Arndt) in 1986. It became Reiser's biggest hit and was covered a.o. by Wizo feat. Bela B. (Die Ärzte), JBO, Ferris MC, Roger Cicero, Daniel Küblböck, Tankwart (aka Tankard), Cindy aus Marzahn mit "Wenn ich Deine Prinzessin wär"
Markus, a former member of "Nylon Euter", also appeared in the legendary NDW movie "Gib Gas, ich will Spass" with Nena (of "99 Luftballons" fame) and joined the Levis NDW West Germany tour featuring Nena, Hubert Kah, Spliff a.o. After his solo success Markus found new fame and fortune with New Romantic duo TXT who scored hits in Italy and West Germany with "Girl's got a brand new toy" (#21 in West Germany) and "Cold as ice" (#47 in West Germany). In the wake of NDW nostalgia he appeared in the NDW-musical with colleagues Hubert Kah, Fräulein Menke, UKW singer Hubert a.o.
