Chad breaks down how to distinguish whether the relationship between two hydrogen atoms in a molecular structure is Homotopic, Enantiotopic, or Diastereotopic.  Homotopic protons and enantiotopic protons are chemically equivalent and will each result in a single signal in an H NMR spectrum, while diastereotopic protons are not chemically equivalent and will result in two signals in an H NMR spectrum.  Chad specifically shows how the replacement method can be used to assign the proper designation.
