Composed for solo piano between 1880 and 1884, Claude Debussy's Rêverie is the earliest known of his many "impressionistic" pieces. The definition of reverie is "a state of being pleasantly lost in one's thoughts; a daydream."

As the piece moves slowly and deliberately, its hypnotic rhythm brings to mind water flowing and bubbling in a fountain. The music becomes more wavelike in tone as the song continues. It then becomes soft and tranquil and moves back and forth in a slight crescendo only to die away again. The listener simply drifts away into a cozy dream world, letting thoughts move off like clouds blowing across the sky.

I orchestrated this piano piece with "natural" instrument voices. Flute, woodwinds, harp and strings play off of each other and blend with each other as the music ebbs and flows in this beautiful hypnotic tone poem.

As a lover of the French Impressionists, this piece is dedicated to my physician and mentor, Dr. Hugh Siddall. For all that you are; for all that you do so selflessly for others; for your care and guidance, I thank you..
