Testing for Thyroid Conditions

There are three main thyroid function tests:
1. TSH test to measure thyroid-stimulating hormone produced by the pituitary.
2. T3 / T4 tests to measure thyroid produced hormones.
3. Thyroid antibody test to primarily look for an autoimmune thyroid condition.
Thyroid tests may be requested if a patient is thought to suffer from hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, or to monitor the effectiveness of their treatment from those conditions.
