We visit HAWKSHEAD Ambleside for a full walking tour of this stunning Lake District village in Cumbria, England. Hawkshead is a beautiful village with lots of cute shops. Let's explore!

This was our first visit to Hawkshead Ambleside and we really enjoyed getting lost in the village streets, browsing the little shops, and having a great lunch in the pub here
Hawkshead was popular with both William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter (There's a Beatrix Potter gallery here in the village too, and a shop selling Peter Rabbit items!)
Tourism is the main industry heree, with many fantastic pubs and inns, hotels and guest houses, teashops and gift shops for you to browse in the village streets.
William Wordsworth went to the old Grammar school here and there are even carvings that Wordsworth made in the classroom!
Just north of Esthwaite Water, Hawkshead is a pretty market village marked by a jumbled collection of stone houses, old arches and squares that enchanted both William Wordsworth – who went to school here – and later Beatrix Potter, who lived at Hill Top – a five-minute drive away at Sawrey.
Visit Cumbria website tell us this about Hawkshead "The Beatrix Potter Gallery, a 17th Century building, was once the office of the local solicitor William Heelis, who married Beatrix Potter in 1913, and has remained largely unaltered since his day. The Gallery, now owned byThe National Trust, houses an annually changing exhibition of a selection of Beatrix Potter’s original drawings and illustrations. The National Trust also own many other buildings in the village, thus preserving its almost museum like air."
If you're coming from Windermere, It is approximately 4 miles to get from Windermere to Beatrix Potter Gallery.
William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey all wrote famous poems about the area. Wordsworth, possibly the most famous of the three, was born on the edge of the Lake District in Cockermouth and moved to Dove Cottage near Grasmere Lake when he was in his twenties.
