The deepfake scheme involves criminals using video clips of Musk speaking, while manipulating the video to make it seem like he's promising an easy way to get rich quickly through cryptocurrency. These criminals are getting more advanced with the use of technology as they offer something too good to be true, promising investors they could make millions off crypto in just a few days or weeks.
Tom Bartholomy with the Better Business Bureau says these scams are hard to intercept, but if you watch and listen carefully, you'll see things aren't synced up as well as they should be, and if Musk was actually saying what the video portrays.
