Exploring Port Richmond Generating Station 2022

First in a series …Join me as we explore the Port Richmond generating Station one of the most iconic power plants in US history! This art deco neoclassical Romanesque structure built in the early 20th century stands as a monument to the power of electrification of America’s major cities! Build a century ago on the banks of the Delaware river in Philadelphia originally slated to generate 600 MW of power with three identical turbine halls! We venture inside the monsters facility gazing upon the massive turbines in their original locations the beautiful vaulted ceiling crumbling upon them as they sit idle! We will review the turbine hall from high top the gantry crane! Watch raindrops gently fall through its arched roof! Venture through the control room, And gaze out it’s broken windows into the past! This is the first in a series of power plant videos celebrating the amazing infrastructure of the electric generating stations of the past!
