If you make an alkoxide
If you make an alkoxide in the presence of a primary haloalkane, there will be an SN2 attack that displaces the halogen atom. This results in the creation of an ether, BUT keep this in mind:
* If the haloalkane isn't primary, there will also be alkene made (competing E2 mechanism)
* The stereochemistry at the site of SN2 attack is inverted
