Released in 1951 and sold to the home market through camera stores, department stores and mail order catalogs by Castle Films, "Flying Action" presents an overview of 50 years of aviation history. It begins with brief shots of the Bell X-2 rocket plane and Lockheed F-80 / P-80 jet, as well as the B-47 Stratojet bomber. At :55 are historic films of the Wright flyer followed at 1:06 by a Curtiss Pusher aircraft or Model D. At 1:15, female pilot Ruth Law is shown, who received her pilot's license in November 1912, and in 1915 gave a demonstration of aerobatics at Daytona Beach, Florida, before a large crowd. At 1;23, planes of the Lafayette Escadrille, America's flying unit in WWI are shown, as well as pilots including ace Eddie Rickenbacker. At 1:49, early bomber aircraft led by General Billy Mitchell bomb stationery warships. At 2:10, the Air Mail is shown in its earliest form. At 2:25, former Air Mail pilot, Charles Lindbergh flies across the Atlantic. At 2:33, Wiley Post and Will Rogers are shown before their fatal flight in Alaska, and at 2:39 Amelia Earhart poses as well as fellow aviatrix Ruth Elder. At 2:44, Ruth Nichols emerges from her Lockheed Vega. She remains the only woman to hold simultaneous world records for speed, altitude, and distance (for a female pilot). At 2:50, Lowell Bayles is seen flying the Gee Bee. The date is  December 5, 1931, and Bayles was attempting to set a new speed record. At 3:00, at a speed of over 300 mph, the wing of the racing aircraft departs and the plane crashes, killing Bayles instantly. At 3:10 the Hindenburg is shown, as well as the disastrous moment when it caught fire and exploded (3:17). At 3:30 an early autogiro is shown followed by an early Sikorsky helicopter. At 3:44, an ill-fated glider followed by a bicycle powered flying machine. At 4:20, Stuka dive bombers attack Allied targets. At 4:40, paratroops jump out of aircraft. At 4:44, P-39 Airacobras and P-40 Warhawks are shown, as well as an unpainted B-17 Flying Fortress. At 5:02 a British RAF B-24 Liberator is shown taking off. At 5:09, a bomber is critically hit in the wing by bombs dropped by a plane above it. At 5:15 an Americanized V-1 Buzz Bomb, the JB-2 Loon, is shown being test launched, followed by shots of the F-80 jet in flight. Helicopters are shown on the deck of an aircraft carrier at 5:40. At 6:00, the massive B-36 Peacemaker takes off. At 6:04, America's first jet aircraft the Bell XP-59A Airacomet is seen being tested at Muroc. At 6:10 the Banshee jet fighter is shown, followed by the Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star. At 6:29, Pacific combat footage from WWII, showing fleets of planes flying off of aircraft carriers, and attacks by Japanese kamikazes. At 6:59, the Bell X-2 rocket plane is seen in flight. At 7:16, a cameraman spins around as a high speed interceptor whips by. At 7:26, a Martin XB-51 prototype bomber takes off. At 7:34, the XB-49 Flying Wing followed by 7:52 by the B-49 Stratojet. At 8:15, the Bell X-1 rocket plane drops from its B-29 mothership and, with pilot Chuck Yeager at the controls, breaks the sound barrier. The Douglas Skyrocket is also shown, as well as the German V-2 rocket, being test launched at White Sands, New Mexico.
