The Sylvania 25-Watt E26 base
The Sylvania 25-Watt E26 base flame tip incandescent light bulb--one of the last remaining incandescent light bulbs still available on the US market. I bought these to use in the bedroom ceiling fan. I didn't read the package very carefully in the store because they're just basic incandescent bulbs, there's not much to it, or so I thought.
Once I got the bulbs home, I looked over the package more thoroughly just out of curiosity. It was at this point when I discovered the notation stating the bulbs are not to be installed with the base upwards; they can only be installed horizontally or with the base facing down. It also states the bulbs are not to be used in ceiling fans.
In all the years I've been using incandescent bulbs, I've never seen or heard of such restrictions. Incandescent bulbs should not care what orientation they're sitting in the fixture. I cannot fathom why these bulbs have such restrictions, so I installed them into the ceiling fan anyways so we can see what happens. I expect the lifespan will be less than it would be in other fixtures, due to the vibration of the fan's motor wearing down the filament, not because they're mounted with the base facing upwards.
