What should you do as a premed when all the doctors you speak to discourage you from becoming a physician? What if they say you're too old and medical school is too hard and expensive? What if they tell you to just become a nurse or PA instead?

Our nontraditional poster this week keeps getting discouraged by the doctors she is speaking to. At 27 years old, she keeps getting the advice that she's too old to become a doctor, medical school is too hard, and she should become a nurse, PA, or optometrist.
She wants to help people with substance use disorder and addiction as a physician. But she keeps being discouraged from that path. Should she listen or ignore them?
Overall, this is a very easy answer: Ignore the doubters.

• Struggles that our healthcare system is facing right now.
• Why she will likely always second-guess herself if she doesn't become a physician.
