Leyland National single decker buses are like Marmite, you either love them or hate them. But they have without doubt become a classic design of single-deck transportation since their introduction to service in 1972 (not to mention providing the basis for the rail-bound version, aka Class 142 DMU 'Pacers'!) On Sunday 30th September 2012, the North West Museum of Road Transport (based at the old Hall Street Bus Depot in St Helens, Merseyside) held a one day event to mark the 40th anniversary of their introduction to service, with no less than ten Leyland Nationals; on show (both based at the museum, and a few visitors), and also being out and about giving free rides around the St Helens area. Buses featured in this video: 1) MTL North 6140 (XLV140W) 2) Routemaster Buses Leyland National 2 WBW735X 3) Crosville Leyland National SNL808 (WFM808L) 4) Western National 2813 (HTA844N) 5) Leyland National B360LOY (formerly owned by easydriveways.com) 6) Leyland National Widnes Corporation 1 (RTC645L) 7) Leyland National 43 0JD868R (Chase livery) 8) John Fishwick & Sons 24 (XCW55R) 9) Leyland National LN19 (BYW432V) - visitor 10) Leyland National EX30 ( TXJ507K) - visitor All footage filmed in and around the museum, and also from Widnes Corporation 1 during the St Helens Hall Street to Lea Green station cavalcade.
