A new report in PainMedicineNews.com reveals athletes have a higher pain tolerance than everyday active people. A study led by Dr. Jonas Tazars at the University of Heidelberg in Germany report that several geographic regions including United States, study athletes to 15 separate studies over 500 athletes and over 300 everyday active people were studied in these tests that measured pain tolerance and pain threshold.

The authors of the study said the following in a recent press release;

“It may be advisable to expect the restoration of function, quality of life and development of pain coping skills rather than the direct alleviation of pain threshold in exercise treatment in pain patients”.

Arizona pain specialist Dr. Glenn Halverson had this to say about the study;

“Pain threshold is really no different in the athlete versus non-athlete, but pain tolerance is. Other saying to be several reasons for that, first of all there’s an expectation, you know the athlete anticipates injury and may have secondary game, you know for putting up with the pain that may be winning in the van tore. You know the economic aspects of professional sports, so anyway the researches took a look at this and said; what can we learn from athletes? We know for example that contact athletes have a higher pain tolerance that non-contact athletes, who have a higher pain tolerance than non-athletes and the common thread seems to be regular activity."
