Linearization of a function can
Linearization of a function can be used to estimate the output of a function when finding its exact value is difficult. This has a handful of different useful applications. In this video I'll show you how to find the linearization of a function at a point which we will be able to apply to estimate more challenging values near that point.
In order to find the linearization of a given function at a given point, it will be very similar to finding the equation of a tangent line. With linearization, we can use the formula for the linearization of a function, denoted L(x).
In this video I'll show you how to find the linearization of f(x)=x^3+2x at the point a=-2. This means that we will be coming up with a linear function that goes through the point that lies on the function at a=-2 and has the same slope as the function f(x)=x^3+2x at that point.
