This video features the Maton MS500 Mastersound electric guitar that George Harrison played with The Beatles in 1963.

The Australian-made MS500 model is set to go under the hammer at the next Gardiner Houlgate Guitar Auction on 12-13th September 2018. Auctioneer Luke Hobbs gives us the skinny on this legendary Maton MS500 while The Guitar Magazine's Chris Vinnicombe puts the guitar through its paces into a 1963 Vox AC30 just like the amp that George would have used onstage with The Beatles during that period.

In the summer of 1963, George Harrison's Gretsch Country Gentleman was experiencing problems and Neil Aspinall took it to Barratt’s in Manchester to be repaired. The Maton was offered as a replacement and even though the Gretsch was repaired and returned the same day, George liked the Maton so much that he ended up using it for a string of gigs before returning it to the store in mid-August.

Also offered in the auction is a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses owned and worn by Harrison in the 1970s. We couldn't resist giving them a try...
