It can be done, but doing that is dependent on your situation. How much it cost you to move to Las Vegas, how much money you have saved, and your plan for once you start living in Las Vegas are all factors to take into consideration. There were several things that I did in order to help myself find my first job in Sin City, and hopefully I'm able to give you some advice that will assist you in finding a job. A very important thing that I did was that I began to ask people in California if they had any connections to people in Las Vegas. I asked relatives, a former coach that had worked at UNLV, another person in the athletic department at San Jose State that used to work at UNLV, and my old operations managers and security managers from clubs in San Francisco. I even spoke with my former coach’s daughter about neighborhoods to live in out in the Vegas area. She recommended that I look into Henderson, NV as a good place to live in Southern Nevada. I asked another guys about living in the southwest part of time as well as Summerlin. He said that those are both good spots to live in. He also suggested that I check into other neighborhoods like Green Valley, Southern Highlands, Rhodes Ranch, Providence, etc. He said that most of the locals do not live by Las Vegas Blvd. I asked every possible person I could think of about finding a job in Las Vegas. Fortunately some of the people in California that I knew were able to connect me with people in Las Vegas so it would not be as hard to get a job. One guy who had a security company connected me to his brother who had worked in private security in Las Vegas and was now working at a radio station. He explained to me the process of getting the work cards-TAM Card, Health/Food Handler’s Card and the Sheriff’s Card. He also gave me some information on applying at night clubs on the strip vs gentlemen’s clubs. Another guy I spoke with lived in Henderson and worked security at a nightclub in Vegas every other weekend. One of his former college football teammates was a manager at a nightclub, and I was able to get an interview in over there. One person in particular was a huge help. He actually picked me up from my hotel on the strip the second night that I was in town, and offered to drive me around to about half a dozen different clubs to pick up applications, turn in my resume and meet hiring managers. I was able to get interviewed at one place when I was just outside talking to some of the staff at the front door of the club. I spoke with one of the managers who also happened to attend San Jose State University. He told me to come back the next night to meet the hiring manager. I came back the next day to interview in the office with the hiring manager, and later met with the general manager who agreed to employ me once I got all of my work cards. I went back to California for a few weeks to finish school, and then returned to Las Vegas immediately to begin work as a new hire at my job. It is important to line up as many interviews as you can with potential employers when looking for work in Las Vegas. Be sure that you are dressed appropriately when you are looking to find a job with a good income. Also make sure that you are well-spoken during your interviews. It helps when you make eye contact with the person interviewing you, and it’s a bonus if you can make a joke or witty comment that gets the other person to laugh or at least crack a smile. Once you begin working in Las Vegas, and become more establish it will become easier for you to get better jobs, and possibly get access to some of the best jobs in your industry. You will have some hard times at your job starting out. Hardly anyone comes to Las Vegas and has such an immediate impact as a new hire that they can advance very quickly to such a high level in the company. It wasn't exactly easy getting my first job in Vegas, but I'm glad that I went through the process and began my new life here!
