I have just returned from visiting my hometown of Ogbomosho in southwestern Nigeria, where my charity, Helping Hands for Education, is in the process of building an educational resource centre for the use of the local community. Once completed, the building will take on several roles:
- It will be a public lending library for the local town.
- It will be a place where the local schools can come to borrow sets of textbooks that have been donated by schools in the U.K.
- It will be an educational centre where talks and training on a wide variety of subjects such as healthcare, well-being, and fitness can be delivered.
- It will be a community meeting place and centre for local activities, bringing people together in friendship and mutual support.
As you will see from the following short video, the work is progressing well. The main development since my last visit has been the installation of the roof. We are now fundraising for the windows, doors and internal wiring to be put into place, followed by the partitioning and plasterboarding (also known as drylining) of the vast internal space. With your kind help, we can make this happen! Whatever you can donate, large or small, will go a long way to completing this project and improving the lives of others, God willing.
