In the interview, Bernard Lewis discusses the evolution of the words for “peace” in Arabic, the origins and uses of the word “Palestine”, the traditional approach of Islam towards non-Muslims, comparisons between Judaism and Islam (specifically halakhah and the shari’a), the rise of Islamism, and the issue of Edward Said’s “Orientalism”.
