Gunmen attempted to attack the US embassy near Beirut on Wednesday morning.
There were four assailants, including one who drove the gunmen to the site and three who opened fire, a Lebanese security official said.
The assault comes as tensions continue to rise in the country following months of fighting between Hezbollah militants and Israeli troops.
Israel, allied to the USA, has warned that it could launch an offensive against the Lebanese militant group.
