⛪ One of the most popular tours in Georgia is an excursion to Mtskheta from Tbilisi. This place attracts pilgrims from all over the world. But ordinary tourists should also go to Mtskheta. The ancient capital of Georgia is characterized by quiet cobbled streets, ancient architecture and picturesque nature. As well as an observation deck, from which a breathtaking view of the mountains opens, the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi rivers and endless expanses.

😍 What I saw on an excursion from Tbilisi to Mtskheta in the summer of 2021:
• Jvari Monastery. This place was described by Lermontov in the poem "Mtsyri". Jvari is one of the oldest temples in Georgia. It contains the cross of St. Nina, who converted Georgia to Christianity.
• Viewpoint. From the mountain on which the Jvari monastery is built, a view of Mtskheta, the confluence of the Kura and Aragvi and mountain villages opens up. The wind always blows upstairs - take windbreakers with you on cooler days.
• Mtskheta. An ancient city, the first capital of Georgia. There are shopping arcades at the entrance. I advise you to look at souvenirs here.
• Svetitskhoveli. One of the main shrines of Georgia. The tunic of Jesus Christ is buried in this place. Important relics are kept in Svetitskhoveli: a particle of the relics of the holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called, the cloak of the holy prophet Elijah, a copy of the Tsilkan icon of the Mother of God. The beloved king of the Georgian people Vakhtang Gorgasali is buried in the cathedral.
☝🏼 The history of these places is very interesting, so I recommend going to Mtskheta from Tbilisi with a guide, not on your own. So you will not miss a single sight, learn local legends and many interesting facts about Georgia.
