In respect of the month of Muharram, Joy of Urdu presented a session on the poetic Urdu genre of Marsiya (October 2019). Urdu literature has a rich history of referencing significant historic and religious events. Qasim Jafri discusses the history of Marsiya writing and the tragedy of Karbala through the lens of its literary and cultural significance.
