5th Performance: INDONESIA 1: YOGYAKARTA (Part 1) - INTERNATIONAL RAMAYANA FESTIVAL 2013 by MAM EO

INTERNATIONAL RAMAYANA FESTIVAL 2013 was held at Open Air Theatre, Prambanan Temple, Yogyakarta, Indonesia on September 5th - 10th, 2013.

There were 9 participated countries who performed a story of Ramayana, based on their own version (Cambodia, India, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Indonesia which represented by Yogyakarta & Bali provinces).

"Hanoman as Envoy"

The selection of Hanoman as the messenger for Ramawijaya in order to see the condition of Dewi Sita while she was detained in Alengka along with the mission to measure the power of Rawana's army in a day with his powers makes Anggada green with jealousy. Conflicts and battles between the both of them was inevitable, but in the end, Hanoman wins, making Anggada realize that he is the best out of the two, and therefore he holds the right to be Rama's envoy.
In the Kingdom of Alengka, particularly in Argasoka Park, Dewi Sita and Trijatha, along with the other princesses were unhappy in the grasp of Rawana. Rawana stubbornly tried to keep Sita, trying to seduce and flirt with her, but Sita remained unmoved. Rawana's anger then peaked because he was offended by Sita's cold words. He threatened to kill Sita, but Trijatha quickly got in the way and reminded Rawana to think straight and be wise. After Rawana went back to his palace, Hanoman came to meet Sita and gave the token Rama gave to him as a proof, and told her that Rama was on his way to Alengka to rescue her.

To measure the power of Rawana's army, Hanoman wrecked havoc at Taman Argasoka, and a great battle happened between Hanoman and Indrajit. In purpose, Hanoman surrendered himself and got caught by Indrajit and his Nagapasa arrow, and was dragged in front of Rawana.

In Alengkadiraja, Rawana was holding a big meeting, and suddenly Indrajit came with Hanoman, who just ruined Argasoka Park. Rawana was very angry and tried to kill Hanoman, but Wibisana and Kumbakarna stopped him. The two of them reminded Rawana that it was wrong to kill a messenger.  Hearing that, Rahwana went even angrier. Wibisana was exiled, while Hanoman was told to be burnt in the town hall of Alengka.

Hanoman burned all of Alengka, causing the fire to spread to all of the palace. The Raksasas panicked as their kingdom burned to ember.
