Met New Farmer Weeding in Jute Field:
Hi Friends,
WEEDING is an important agricultural operation for any crop. Removal of weeds by uprooting or by cutting is called weeding. Thinning is removal of excess plants to keep optimum plant population. Thinning is also done while weeding.
Remember that weeding and thinning have to be done at porper time to avoid improper growth of plants. If not done, there will be competition for space, water and nutrients among plants. As such crowded population will not give good yield. Weeding is done twice during jute cultivation, once during first weeding 20-25 days after sowing (DAS) and second at 35-40 DAS.
The tender leaves of jute plants are alos used as leafy vegetables which are rally tasty. The Bengali people of Bangladesh and West Bengal prefer it a lot.
II DO WEEDING AT PROPER TIME II
Weeding is done
a. to follow integrated nutrient management,
b. to provide equal space, water and nutrient to each plant,
c. to get better quality fibre from the field.
d. to keep plants healthy as weeds may act as collateral hosts.
