Are you prepared for the global weather changes El Niño will bring?

No matter where you are in the world, you can expect a big change in the weather. As we start to get into the late fall, early winter, we're likely to see a lot more drought in Australia, increased hurricane activity in the North Pacific, and more intense winter storms in the Northeast U.S. La Niña and El Niño are expected, but climate change can affect them. If you warm up the tropical Pacific, that can lead to more profound disruptions in the weather patterns that you see around the globe.

Ben Kirtman is a professor of atmospheric sciences at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science. He uses atmosphere-ocean general circulation models to study the predictability and variability of the Earth’s climate system.
