This fun opening sequence comes
This fun opening sequence comes from a rare Quarterly Video issued by CEC Entertainment's Home Office back in 1999.
It is one of several that were once compiled and shipped each sales quarter to every 'Chuck E. Cheese's' location to be viewed exclusively by the General Manager and management staff only.
Cast were typically not shown these.
These videotapes were not shown publically, and were not segments used in Showtapes played in the restaurants.
Once viewed by management staff, these VHS tapes were ususally discarded.
But thanks to crazy fans like me, YOU now get to see this rare gem from the past!
This footage features a version of the costumed character wearing the very FIRST version of his look from 1977....minus the sleeping attire.
The 'Rat' head shown is the original version that was purchased at a costume convention in the mid-70s by associates of Nolan Bushnell.
The costume, originally thought to be a coyote before its long tail was discovered, inspired Nolan to create the Pizza Time Theater restaurant concept.
It also inspired the creation of the character that became known to be 'The Big C', Chuck E. Cheese.
