Centurion D5 sliding gate motors are well known and mostly installed by installers across South Africa.
Plenty of these gate motors are still operating but very few installers do know how to troubleshoot these gate motors and how to set them up properly.
Everyone wants a Centurion D5 Evo sliding gate motor, but the success was due to the initial Centurion D5 sliding gate motor.
So if you have one of these gate motors, there is hope.
Just contact the experts in Centurion D5, D5 Evo sliding gate motor systems.
Yes, that right, juts Call Pottie on 083 778 2288 and he will sort your Centurion D5 sliding gate motor out!!!
With 20 years experience in Centurion sliding and swing gate motor systems, under the belt, one can proudly say, that there is no problem that Pottie cannot sort out on a Centurion D5 sliding gate motor.

This was a insurance claim, the client wanted to claim through his insurance to get his gate motor repaired/ replaced.
In order for this to be successful, one needs to prove that a insured peril was the cause for the failure of the gate motor system.
Note, that opinions do not matter, one nees to prove a claim to be valid or not.

So first things first:
1. Gate running condition:
Check steel sliding gate force with hand, the steel gate needs to run freely without too much force to be used in order to move the steel sliding gate.
This gate could not be moved easily, one needed to use your hole body to open and close the steel sliding gate.
The steel gate cannot have any obstructions present in the fully closed or fully open position "so gate guide brackets must ensure smooth operation"
2. Steel gate wheels:
Check steel gate wheels for free running condition.
Steel gate wheels cannot be jammed, hard to turn, loud or squeaky noises.
Gate wheels should be turning freely and smoothly at all times.
3. Steel gate rail:
The steel gate rail should not be forcing down onto the gate motor pinion gear as this will be seen as a obstruction in the gate operation.
The steel gate rail steel support brackets needs to be welded in place and enough steel angle brackets should be present.
4. Gate motor:
Check gate motor installation, gate motor should be upright and level.
The gate motor should also be parallel with the steel sliding gate.
The gate motor must be properly secured with all 3x steel nuts.
5. Check gate motor electronic components.
Check controller card for visible damage, like water, or ant nets etc
Check controller card fuse and fuse holders.
Fuses must sit tight in fuse holders
no wire wrapping fuses may be used, one will damage electronic equipment if fuses are wire wrapped.
check wire connections into controller card for tightness.
do not over tighten!!
Check gate motor power supply for visible damage, certain keys areas will clearly show damage when damage is present.
ants like to use the power supply as a nesting area due to the heat generated when charging the gate motor battery.
Check battery charging voltage and adjust to around 13,80 volts dc.
Lithium batteries charging voltage settings needs to be set much higher due to the Lithium BMS "battery managing charging system" present within the battery.
6. Check the doss disc for oil present on the disc, clean doss disc if needed.
7. Check gearbox oil level and top up if needed "hardly ever needed"
8. Check gate motor battery by placing it under load.
Testing a battery voltage does not mean anything, one needs to see how much energy is left inside the battery, thus the testing under load.
Make sure battery leads is tightly connected to the gate motor battery.
The gate motor operates from the battery at all times so a poor connection will cause the gate motor to malfunction.
The clients gate motor was tested with her gate motor battery, but the gate motor malfunctioned. a trained eye, showed that stored power in the gate motor battery was not enough to operate the steel sliding gate in the current condition.

a fully charged test battery was also used which indicated that the clients gate motor was still working apart from all the maintenance related aspects.

When the basics are in place, then only can one look into why a gate motor does malfunction.
Do not jump to conclusions without eliminating the basics first.
when all is in place, a Centurion sliding gate motor can last up to 25 years.
