Took a drive down one of my favorite roads in the mountains and decided to try out some of different mics I've been messing with.
Under the hood- PowerDeWise lavalier microphone
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...
On the back at top of the hatch- Sony ECMCS3 microphone
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...

Both mics seemed to break up with higher db when put by my license plate on the back. The PowerDeWise has more crackling with high db noise but doesn't completely fall apart when it gets really loud. The Sony has less crackling overall but will completely fail if it gets really loud. When they were moved to the top of the hatch they both did better with the Sony doing the best. You can still hear some crackling in the video even at that position tho. The Sony has a better sound quality overall and plays the higher Hz range far better. I have used quite a few mics over the years and the Sony is one of the better ones but it needs some distance from the exhaust (or loud sound source) to work. I just got a Olympus ME51SW so we shall see how that does.
